Dallas Municipal Court Week

Dallas Municipal Court Week

Trinity Basin Preparatory’s Jefferson Campus proudly participated in Dallas Municipal Court Week 2025, giving students a hands-on lesson in how the justice system works. The highlight of the week was a mock trial in which Jefferson scholars served as attorneys, witnesses, and jurors.

Jefferson Principal Dr. Darion Walton partnered with longtime friend and Dallas County Judge Toyna Goffney to make the experience possible.

Dr. Walton says, “When students are exposed to real-world systems and environments, it opens doors to possibilities they may have never imagined.”

Students who educators say exemplify the TITAN core values were selected to participate in the mock trial.

NJHS advisor Ms. Norma Anderson praised the students, saying, “Our scholars rose to the challenge… they show students just how powerful their voices can be.”

The students spent weeks preparing for the mock trial, which they won. They even earned high praise from Judge Goffney, who said, “The scholars of Trinity Basin Preparatory brought energy, insight, and thoughtful engagement to Dallas Municipal Court Week, reminding us that civic education is most powerful when it inspires the next generation.”

The students said the activities of the week were transformative for them.

“We practiced hard and pushed through our nerves, and when the trial began, we delivered with confidence,” said student Valeria Carrillo. “Winning the case made us proud and gave us our best moment of the year.”

The students also said the mock trial helped them learn how to focus on big tasks.

“The trial pushed us through chaos and nerves, yet we stayed focused and delivered our parts,” said student Valerie Rogel.

“Our teamwork carried us through the challenge, and winning made the experience rewarding and enjoyable,” said student Bianca Moya.

Congratulations to all students involved!
